Journal 2- Janecia Britt

A piece of writing in my everyday life that I use constantly would be the PowerPoint slides I make for the meeting I run for Spoon University on campus. Every Monday I make about 15 slides and me and the rest of the executive board compiles important information that needs to be relayed to the chapter whether that is photo assignments or new events or even important memos from our headquarters.  I think Bitzer would definitely say that there is a particular rhetorical situation in which I use these. That there is a context in which I as the Editorial Director create a rhetorical discourse. I think the brainstorming and relation of information in our meeting would be a part of this discourse.  I don’t think they would interpret it much differently but I think they would pose questions about what type of discourse the situation brings about, as it is the situation that brings the discourse into existence.
I feel as though Edbauer would just over complicate what he claims is oversimplified in the Rhetorical Situation.  I didn’t really understand Edbauer, whatever he means by situs or fixed location, I assume would be the PowerPoint but it’s not as complex as he tries to make it seem. It’s very much linear in that I compile this writing and create a discourse with it amongst my peers. I think similar between the two opinions would be the idea of connectedness. With Bitzer the idea that discourse and the situation are connected and with Edbauer the idea that there is this network space of flows and connections. Which I think is very applicable to what I do with my PowerPoint; there is a creation of connectedness within my meetings all of which roots back to this public forum of a PowerPoint.
This public and shared platform also creates a connectedness that allows users to click back and forth to access information.  Also Edbauer’s suggestion that discourse is formed through a series of ideals fits in with this example due to the fact that the discourse created in our meeting is  series of ideas and thoughts.
